‘Go Green’, a term unheard of in the 20th century is gaining significance with the increasing knowledge on the adverse effects of industrial as well as commercial pollution leading to global warming. Also, with the growing concern of drying of fossil fuel and limited supply of mine generated coal, there is a need for an alternative.
Bio energy, a green source of energy has evolved towards the beginning of the 21st century and is still in the research side as all possibilities are not explored to the maximum. There are various sources as well as forms of bio energy. Sources includes air, water and material such as wind energy (air), hydro plants (water) and material includes cow dung, agriculture residues, forest residues and others. Gas form of energy is the most popular; however the liquid and solid forms are still not adequate in supply as well as knowledge.
With India as an agro based country where more than a third of the GDP comes from agriculture, adequate use of the same will write the success story of the country’s development. Millions of tones of residues from agriculture as well as forestry goes as a waste on annual basis and is growing with growth in agriculture. The same can be used for burning and hence produce heat- The base foundation of a source of energy. If the same waste can rather become a material to contribute to the economy, the growth story is bound to happen.
Surrounded by Sea on the three sides and Mountain on the fourth, there is a great potential of using the climatic dynamics (wind in specific) to produce energy. Government of India has also listed a great number of Wind Farms which one can use to generate wind energy. Abundance of water in the entire country is also a source of energy and hence a potential for hydro electric plants.
The story looks great but the fact states something different. The Foreign Nations have moved a great deal in the alternate sources of energy but the country still lacks initiatives. It is now time for the country to show its potential by making proper use of the abundant resources available and write its growth story in gold.
